Rest In Peace Michael Jackson
It is always shocking when a celebrity dies. It is almost as if you expect them to live forever. But when they are taken at the age of 50, it is even harder tohandle. The world knew Michael Jackson for his music, his eccentricities and his unwavering desire to be the best he could be at his chosen profession.
Michael Jackson’s legacy will live on in our hearts as we learn how to accept the fact that he is gone.
From the early years when he performed with his brothers, the attention of the world was focused on this little boy as he captured the hearts of his fans. Music seemed to come easy to Michael but he gave it his all, whether practicing for a concert or a new video the moves had to be precise – the choreography just right.
Over the years with each new song released, his popularity grew as did the boy that started out at 11 years old. The one thing he did not grow out of was the ability to enjoy life through the eyes of a child.
From the 1980s to the 1990s as I grew up listening to “Man In The Mirror” to “Smooth Criminal” Michael Jackson was one of my favorites. There was just something about his music that made you want to listen. Times were different then and one of the things that will be remembered about Michael Jackson’s legacy is the road he paved for the African-American sector.
In the 1980s he soared with the release of “Thriller” and the little boy of the Jackson 5 was left behind. As Michael’s music prevailed and more hits were released -“Billie Jean”, “Beat It” and “Bad” – listening to his music made you have to try a few moves of your own. But of course, no one could do the moves that he could do, although many tried. His talent was unique and all his own. No one could come close to the energized dancing and the voice that belonged to Michael.
This was an exciting time for us, the fans of Michael, as he released hit after hit and the world followed his eccentricities. From the one sequined glove to the plastic surgeries, rumors abounded. This just made people want to follow what he was doing even more. But through all the gossip and the speculation, Michael stayed true to his music.
Much of the money he made went to help children. This, in particular I found to be a trait of Michael Jackson’s legacy that many people forget to focus on. Too often people are labeled as being something they are not because they see the world through a different light. While all the rumors were abundant, he still continued to do what he loved to do.
I grew up with Michael from the days when life was so much simpler. His music was a part of my life and though I did not personally know him, he has touched my life as he has touched others. I believe his unconventional way of life was an answer to the childhood experiences he had while growing up. Pressure was always a part of his life from the time he was a small child.
Recapturing the youth that he did not have consumed the life he lived when he was older. This was the purpose behind Neverland and the things he enjoyed that were considered childish. What is wrong with the world that they cannot see the deviation from what they consider normal is not necessarily a bad thing?
I know that Michael Jackson has finally found the peace that he did not have while on this earth. Popularity takes its toll on those who choose the type of life that Michael chose. But I will always remember the Michael I choose to remember, the kind and gentle man. Michael Jackson’s legacy will continue even though the world has lost one of the most talented people of this decade.
